A Message from CaseyANNOUNCEMENT: If you're subscribed to NeoScum, you may have noticed changes to the titles of previous episodes. The NeoScum narrative has been divided into story arcs! These arcs were carefully considered and are defined by the progression of themes/larger narrative beats. By distinguishing movements within a sprawling storyline, we hope to make community discussion easier and provide more natural entry points for new listeners who'd like to "try before they buy" -- something I, Casey, personally recommend! There are ways we'd like to support this change (that may take time to implement): 1. Write+record incremental story recaps, attaching them to the first ep of each arc. 2. Revamp neoscum.com/starter around this. 3. Continue naming new arcs, when we feel one is complete. That last one is particularly interesting, I think. NeoScum is an extremely fluid show, as you know, and Gannon can't (and doesn't want to) plan "arcs" ahead of time. Pre-naming (at least right now) feels counter to the spirit of NeoScum. Plus, since it's a roadtrip, arcs can't be defined purely by location, given our stay anywhere can vary from a single episode to, ahem, 20. All of this is to say, you can probably just refer to an ongoing, unnamed arc as "the current arc". We hope the arcs are a welcome addition and that you see the meaning in those we've created so far. NeoScum's storytelling isn't going to change (how could it!), just maybe the ways we discuss it.
